Radiation Map Tracker provides access to an extensive network of continuously updated, real-time nuclear radiation detectors operated by volunteers rather than government agencies. This application enables users to monitor reported radiation levels across different locations worldwide. Updated readings are available every few minutes.
The app showcases the current ionizing radiation readings from these detectors on a user-friendly global map, using the standard unit of measurement for radiation, uR/hr. Users can explore different locations and zoom in to view readings. Typically, background (naturally occurring) radiation levels near sea level range from 10 to 20 uR/hr. Higher elevations exhibit naturally higher readings due to cosmic rays from space.
By tapping on a specific reading, users can access a chart displaying the past few days of recorded data. Additionally, users have the option to smoothen out fluctuations by adjusting the number of samples averaged per plotted point, enhancing visibility of subtle variations.
